We help organisations make sense of their complex data, policies, and processes to improve understanding and engagement.
Designing for positive impact
We work with organisations who want to effectively communicate the economic, social, and environmental impacts of investments, natural resource and infrastructure projects, and clearly convey transition and climate plans.
We support partners through research collaborations, training, developing strategies, improving information experiences, and by making digital services and software products.
We apply systems thinking, visual storytelling, and participatory design to humanise data and policies. We make useful content, lots of maps, and location services for diverse audiences.
We believe better outcomes can be achieved when information is open, accessible, and meaningful so everyone can be involved in decisions that impact them, the environment, and our planet.
Our Work
Community Design Innovation
information
participation
transformation
Our Community Design Innovation Program is for organisations who want to learn new approaches and skills to improve information systems and community engagement.
It’s a learning and development program designed to support organisational change and digital transformation of systems through training, workshops, and design collaborations.
We are developing a reporting and engagement platform to help make natural resources and energy project and investment information more accessible and useful for communities, shareholders, and investors.
We’d love to from you if you are a government, company, or community organisation keen to innovate and design more effective ways to communicate.
Simply Explaining Laws and Processes
We visually map legislation and regulations to help communities and businesses understand their roles, rights, responsibilities, and government decision making processes.
We design and facilitate workshops that bring people together to collaboratively translate, design, and improve laws and other processes; map information journeys, and develop interactive pathways to connect digital systems.
We’ve collaborated with many organisations including Transparency International, Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, and many government departments including the Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment.
Data and Policy Storytelling
We designed over 450 maps, data visualisations, infographics, illustrations, gifs, videos and animations for Transport for NSW's Future Transport Master Strategy and Plans to bring data and plans to life across print, web, social media and community engagement events.
Service Design and Location Services
Common Ground was the revolutionary open government mobile web app we made with the NSW Department of Resources and Energy in 2012.
It helped people easily find locations and information about coal, mineral, petroleum and gas activities in New South Wales, and simply explained the role of community in the decision making process.
Decommissioned in 2023, it is still a world leading example of connecting and presenting data for community audiences, and participatory design.
We are developing a reporting and engagement platform so that any government and company can publish their reports, plans, and project data in meaningful ways for local and Indigenous communities and investors.
Information and Graphic Design
We work with many open government partners on advocacy materials to visualise complex concepts making them easier for people to comprehend.
The Australia’s National Integrity System, Blueprint for Action was a publication to explain what’s needed to create a strong national integrity commission - led by Griffith University and Transparency International Australia.
Content and Web Design
We work with many local and international non government organisations.
Open Ownership supports governments to introduce new laws and data systems required to make it easy to publish and access high-quality, linked data about who owns companies.
We helped Open Ownership wrangle and refresh their content and designed their Guide to Implementing Beneficial Transparency. Other collaborations include impact storytelling and designing workshops for the Zambian Government’s Opening Extractives program.

Designing governance systems to be more open, inclusive and collaborative
There is a global ‘open’ movement, thousands of innovators in governments, companies, and civil society who are working on transforming data and practices that allows people to participate in the design and development of public policy, services, programs, and projects that impact them.
We’ve made it our job to support them.
